IMPLANT-SUPPORTED DENTURES

Many people find that they are dissatisfied with the fit and functional limitations of conventional removable dentures. With modern advancement in dental technology, we are now able to replace multiple missing teeth with implant-supported dentures instead of conventional dentures. In our practice, we offer several options for implant-supported dentures, which allow you to eat and speak as though you had natural teeth. They also do not require daily application of adhesive to keep them in place. These are not your grandparents' dentures!

The unique combination in our office of both a periodontist and a prosthodontist on staff allow us to provide this skilled care in a single office setting, with no need for outside referrals or travel to a different provider's office for the different phases of implant-supported denture treatment.

In our practice, we apply the most advanced CBC, CAD/CAM (Computer-aided design and manufacturing) and 3D printing technologies to plan and execute implant denture treatment, avoiding damage to surrounding vital structures and reducing treatment time to produce a truly custom and comfortable fitting fixed denture.

There are three main types of implant-supported dentures: Fixed Implant-Supported Dentures ("All-On-4"), Immediate Implant Dentures and Removable Overdenture for the Lower Jaw.

FIXED IMPLANT-SUPPORTED DENTURE ("ALL-ON-4")

This is a non-removable denture, permanently fixed in the jaw and supported by 4 to 6 implants in each jaw. A fixed implant-supported denture can be placed in either or both upper and lower jaws. The support afforded by multiple implants allows the prosthesis to be attached permanently in the jaw, providing tremendous benefits including chewing capacity, which is as normal, and effective as your own natural teeth in a natural-looking and esthetically pleasing fixed denture.

IMMEDIATE IMPLANT DENTURE

In the past, patients undergoing fixed implant-supported denture treatment needed to wait three to six months following implant placement surgery before the implants were ready to support the implant denture. Now, however, many patients are candidates for immediate placement, which allows them to leave the office the same day that implants are placed with a beautiful and fully functional set of immediate implant dentures.

Sometimes called "Teeth in a Day", immediate implant dentures are indicated for patients with terminal dentition, i.e. non-restorable teeth that require extraction due to decay or gum disease. This is one of our most recommended options, because it presents no delay in treatment and the immediate ability to chew comfortably. The significant reduction in treatment time for immediate implant denture placement means fewer appointments and less healing time for a very natural, functional and esthetically-pleasing outcome.

REMOVABLE OVERDENTURE FOR THE LOWER JAW

An overdenture is a removable denture that is supported not by gum tissue alone, but by two dental implants surgically placed in the jawbone. A removable lower overdenture represents a more affordable alternative to fixed implant-supported dentures and is also indicated for patients with limited bone and for patients who wish to pursue a less surgically invasive treatment than the fixed implant-supported denture option.

The benefits of a removable overdenture consist of greater stability and increased chewing function in comparison with conventional dentures in the lower jaw. A lower overdenture often is paired with a conventional denture in the upper jaw for a natural looking outcome. These dentures are removable and therefor easy to clean.
